and the "whoops, I erased the tape" award goes to . . .

An hour ago, I would've said the BBC, for their bureaucratic stupidity in "purging" a bunch of early episodes of Doctor Who so they could save storage space or re-use the film. But I've just come across a new case of maybe-we-should-have-saved-that-video that is so far up the "what were you thinking?? scale, I doubt anyone will ever match it:

NASA could put a man on the moon but didn't have the sense to keep the original video of the live TV transmission.

Heh. I saw that news story yesterday, and thought the exact same thing - it ranks with the Beeb erasing the DW tapes.

It makes me wonder just how damn expensive tape was back in the '70's that everyone kept erasing things in order to reuse it.
