for West Wing fans: the best political ad ever

Bridget Mary McCormack is running for the Michigan Supreme Court. Bridget Mary McCormack's sister is Mary McCormack, an actress who used to be on the West Wing. Bridget asked Mary for a little help in making a video that would a) publicize her candidacy, and b) remind voters to vote for the non-partisan slots on the ballot (e.g., state supreme court judges) in addition to the partisan slots (e.g., President of the USA).

The result is here. Why can't we get more political ads like this?

I saw it the other day via Tumblr, but it's great isn't it? It was so nice to see them all & good fun, even though some of them have really aged since the show ended!

Ah, so I was beat out by Tumblr, was I? I don't understand Tumblr yet, but I remember the days when I didn't understand LJ. Maybe eventually I'll figure Tumblr out and actually start reading posts over there. Is it the new big thing? Is it better than LJ?

Not only was it great to see so many cast members reunited, but it was really well done -- great script and great direction (I loved the "let's walk and talk!" bits).

Yes, it was - v true to the whole thing while being quite funny and tongue-in-cheek. :-)

And, as for Tumblr, well, it's busier than LJ and it's better for posting images on, but LJ is much better for blogging and journaling and having communities and actually talking to people. And Lj-cuts and other things. I don't understand anyone making it their primary fannish home unless they're really only interested in images. I'm expecting everyone to come back any day soon, starved of community interaction and actual conversation.

But it is a more sensible place to post old screencaps, and there is a lot of pretty. :-)

Wow, that was cool, even though I didn't understand any of it. It's so weird to see Josh looking fatter and Jed with grey hair. And Mary McCormack looks familiar, but I couldn't have said who she played.

But the end was really odd with Bridget Mary McCormack just saying she approved it, I was expecting her to add something else.

That's a standard requirement here in the U.S. for political ads that are paid for by a specific campaign. The candidate has to say their name, and say they "approve this message." Here's a short Obama ad where he does it right at the beginning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYXXkOLgMqQ

It was really fun to see them all together again, wasn't it? I thought the script was also very good, with a lot of fun, sly nods to the show and the actors.

It really sounds to me like they don't want to be associated with the advert, like they're saying it because they have to and beyond that they've got nothing to do with it.
