I'm writing!

I am actually working on a fic! I don't have much written for it yet, but it's "jelled," if that makes any sense -- I feel energy and momentum with it, which is something that has been missing from my writing attempts for a very long time. It's still possible that I will stall out on it, but for now, I am enjoying the experience. : )

I have also been inspired to go back and look at some of my past writing, in particular my work for [profile] 50ficlets. Some of those ficlets turned out to be pretty good stories, and I posted them on Teaspoon when I wrote them. Some of the ficlets are probably best forgotten. (But that's okay; in fact, part of the point of doing it!) Then there are a few ficlets -- I've identified two so far -- that don't really work as stand-alone stories, but are nice little pieces of writing that I still like, and therefore think are worthy of getting posted.

My original goal for [profile] 50ficlets was to take the best of them and put them up on Teaspoon as a collection of vignettes, possibly loosely woven together. I'm now thinking that I don't want to wait. Even though I only have two, I've decided to go ahead and create a "ficlet collection" story on Teaspoon, and put these in as the first chapters.

Apparently I am still starving for new reviews . . . *embarrassed cough* . . . but I also hope that actually posting something on Teaspoon will spur me on with my current fic.

Good luck!

Everything I start writing lately stalls after a few days - usually as a result of me running out of energy (owing to work and pain) before I can finish. It's really annoying and a bit depressing too.

Of course, the proliferation of plot bunnies means that I keep starting new things!

Oh, that is frustrating! In fact, I think there are few things that can equal the frustration of starting a fic, being excited by it, then watching it sputter out. I unfortunately know that feeling all too well. *HUGS* and I hope you find your energy again soon!

Thanks. I basically need less pain in my life - which means I need my boss to be less of a git!

YAYAYAY!!! Your writing is awesome, I'm so glad you seem to have found a bit of a muse again! :)

Oh, thanks! My writing is definitely not all awesome, though, as I just reminded myself by looking back through my ficlets. Some of them were, er, well . . . yes. They exist. If you and others think I'm a good writer, it's because I only post the good stuff. :D

COUGH. You and any other good writer out there. Honestly, I'm pretty sure that the main problem of a lot of writers who aren't considered good is that they DON'T do that :D You're as good as your GOOD fic. And your good fic is awesome. so yes.

Very true! It's something I wish more new writers knew, too. Not just for our sakes (less bad!fic!), but because some new writers look at good fic, then look at their own writing, then get discouraged. What they need to realize is that even the best writers out there have written crap. And not years ago; lately! I am sure of it. It's part of the writing process, and the important thing is to get the crap out of the way so you can go on to the good stuff!

Yup yup. I mean, I completely understand the need to post fic and see reaction as soon as possible, and how impatient you get with re-reading the same fic fifty times to try and find that magic ingredient (or just having to admit that it's not that good) so I can sympathise with why a lot of badfic gets posted. But sometimes that 50th read is necessary... *sob*

\o/ YOU ARE WRITING!!

I hope it works out - I'm sure it will! I also hope you get some nice reviews via Teaspoon. But if you don't get many, I've noticed it being so much quieter than it used to be when I've posted. Either it's my obscurity again, or everyone's written me off in my absence, I don't know. :-/

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2012-06-25 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's quiet because there's no new Doctor Who on right now? You'd think people would be all the more eager for fanfic when there's a long hiatus, but I've noticed that it usually has the opposite effect.

Oh, that's true. But it still seems v quiet to me.

[identity profile] pitry.livejournal.com 2012-06-25 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it always tends to go quieter between series. From my own experience, I can understand that - I get the craving for fanfic when I'm immersed in something, ie when I've reached a certain level of obsessiveness. I can maintain the interest some time afterwards, but eventually the interest just dissipates with the lack of immersion. So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one, so I guess it makes sense it grows quieter on hiatuses.
