I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and jump to season 2 now. I feel like season 1 has promise, but it's not gelling yet.
I would advice against it. Not much left now and "Into the Fold" is a very important set-up for something that happens later. It develops Claire and Isaac. Also you need to see the last two "New Dimensions" and "Mad Idolatry" to see how the Ed/Kelly relationships develops, some great scenes in there. Actually "Cupid's Dagger" is important for that too, but this one is a bit controversial. I like it but I can see their point about some scenes. "Firestorm" is about Alara's character, to see her grow confidence. So, in a way, they're all important. Also, one of these episodes introduces Dann and you really really don't want to miss that! Dann is everyone's favorite. He is so out of touch with everything ;)
As for fannishness, I forgot another sign - that I want to watch an episode more than once. With most shows I am good with watching it once, but with Stargate for example I watched it very excessively. Same with Doctor Who. And with all the stuff that happens in Orville season 2, it made me go back and watch the beginnings of those storylines from season 1, and now I'm not even rewatching whole episodes but just repeatedly my favorite scenes. I even changed the episodes into MP3s to listen to the dialogues in bed when falling asleep. It's pathethic, really ;) Apparently there is also a soundtrack CD. The music is really good.
I did read a bit of Sherlock fics but I'm usually not a shipper (except for Ed/Kelly ;) ) and they mostly write about John/Sherlock. Very rarely that someone did a proper case with a proper plot but then I think that might be very difficult. I definitely was not in any fan forums, discussing any fan theories, they were going wild there. And for some reason, I also never really clicked with Benedict Cumberbatch, despite actually having met him at a convention. I thought it would happen then, as sometimes it's different to meet them in the flesh instead of character, but it didn't.
Oh yes I have watched lots and lots of stuff with David Tennant, and he was brilliant in everything. That's what I call a good actor, he's so different each time! Granted I lost him a bit from my sight during the past years when I was busy with William Shatner and Sean Pertwee, but watching "Good Omens" has put me back into the mood now, so I need to check what he has done that I missed. Someone uploaded his podcast where he talks to fellow co-workers and friends including Jodi, Catherine Tate or Olivia Colman on youtube. Very familiar interviews.
Looking up your location - oh yes, I'd say you are a long way from London! That's great that you came over here for that. We had tickets for one show but after it ended I said I want to see it again, and so we went one morning and got leftover tickets to see it a second time. My avatar is from the stage door that day.
I did not watch "Game of Thrones" either, for the violence and also I am generally not into any fantasy / medieval setting, and all the people plotting against each other, intrigat politics are not my thing.
Some of "Black Mirror" is dark while other episodes are lighter. The reason is that some are British and some are American. The "Nosedive" one I mentioned is an American one and it feels different somehow. Still brings over its point, but definitely is not as dark as some of the British ones that leave you in a state of shock. The first one of season 4 is set on a spaceship similar to Star Trek, that's how I learnt about the series, again in the Star Trek forum. I could look up which episodes I think you might enjoy. For example 2x01 "Be right back", that's a nice and rather soft one. But then again I liked them all except for two. Some certainly left a deep impression on me. Just look through the episode guide and see what tickles your fancy? They can totally be watched out of order.

Did you know it was filmed and that you can purchase it? Not as DVD but as download: https://www.digitaltheatre.com/consumer/production/much-ado-about-nothing
In case you want to see it again.
