Chris Chibnall??????!!!

The Radio Times is reporting that Moffat is stepping down, and his replacement as Doctor Who showrunner will be Chris Chibnall. I am really, really hoping that it's April Fool's Day, and I've just missed it.

(Psst -- BBC, please take another look a Toby Whithouse? Pretty please??)

Well, it's not going to happen for a long time, so let's not worry. :-)

And, oh dear, I didn't read the comments but I clicked on the comm and the entry alone made me unsure whether to laugh or cry. Yes, dear, the Evil Mr Moffat has persuaded the BBC to give him a year off. It's got nothing to do with BBC budget cuts (and I'm willing to bet he's not going to get a year off either, even though he probably needs one by now). Oh dear. I think I shall laugh, but stupid in the Moffat hate seems endless. (I'm sure there must be epic stupid in all the hate, of course, but I've seen some incredible things re. hating Steven Moffat.) I think I can safely say that no matter how much I like or dislike Chris Chibnall, I shall not assume that he does everything out of malevolence, nor that he is an evil superbeing, because these things are just never going to be true.)

I really don't understand the Moffat hate. I've loved him as showrunner -- that doesn't mean he's perfect, but overall he's done a fantastic job.

Perhaps people will grow to respect Moffat more in retrospect once we get Chibnall in? Ha, a silver lining!

And actually, that might happen just through having a new showrunner in regardless of who it is. I feel like some of the Moffat criticism is simply due to him not being RTD, just like some of the Martha criticism was from her not being Rose. Yes, fandom, it's someone NEW! Deal with it!

And of course, after Chibnall, someone else new will come along. Doctor Who is bigger than all of them, thank goodness.

I think that'll be inevitable. At the moment, for New Who fans, there's this polarising RTD vs Moffat - but once you throw in a third person it's got to start evening out a little. Although I say that, but people still hate JNT with a passion and this is DW fandom...

And, yes, DW is change and that's how it goes. And every now and then some of us will have to sit out an era, but that's DW too.
